UL Certification

UL stands for Underwriter Laboratories Inc. The UL Safety Testing Institute is the most authoritative institution in the United States and one of the largest private organizations in the world engaged in safety testing and certification. It is an independent, non-profit professional organization that conducts experiments for public safety. It adopts scientific testing methods to study and determine whether various materials, devices, products, equipment, buildings, etc. are harmful to life and property, and the degree of harm; Determine, write, and distribute corresponding standards and materials that help reduce and prevent damage to life and property, while conducting fact finding research. In short, it mainly engages in product safety certification and business safety certification, with the ultimate goal of obtaining products with a considerable level of safety for the market and contributing to the guarantee of personal health and property safety. In terms of product safety certification as an effective means of eliminating technical barriers to international trade, UL also plays a positive role in promoting the development of international trade.

UL was founded in 1894 and initially relied on funding from the fire insurance department to maintain its operations. It was not until 1916 that UL became fully independent. After nearly a century of development, UL has become a world-renowned certification body with a complete set of rigorous organizational management system, standard development, and product certification procedures. UL is managed by a board of directors consisting of representatives from safety experts, government officials, consumers, education, utilities, insurance, and standards departments, with daily work handled by the President and Vice President. At present, UL has five laboratories in the United States, headquartered in Northbrook, north of Chicago, and has also established corresponding laboratories in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
The UL mark is the most familiar and recognized safety mark in the market, representing that the product meets the safety requirements of the United States. For American manufacturers and consumers, the UL logo is the most trusted safety symbol.
UL approved component mark
\
Ordinary consumers rarely see these logos because they are specifically designed for components that are part of larger products or systems. These components may have limited performance or cannot directly form a complete product on their own. The application scope of the component approval mark is countless, including certain switches, power supplies, printed circuit boards, certain types of industrial control equipment, and thousands of other products.

Like the UL Listing and Grading Mark, there are three types of UL approved component marks: one is only used in the United States, one is only used in Canada, and one is commonly used in both the United States and Canada. The C-UR mark is applicable to components used only in the Canadian market. Components with such markings have been evaluated according to Canadian standards. The C-UL-US component approval mark is optional, indicating that the product meets the requirements of both Canada and the United States. UL encourages manufacturers who evaluate their UL approved components in both countries to adopt this new combination logo, but manufacturers may choose to continue using the UL approved component logo specifically for the United States or Canada.
The products covered by the UL approved parts project will be installed in other devices, systems, and end products. These components will be installed in the factory rather than on-site, and their performance may be limited, which could restrict their use. When evaluating complete products or systems equipped with UL approved components, the end product evaluation process can be simplified.
UL Listing Mark
\
The UL Listing Mark is the most commonly used UL mark. If the product bears this mark, it indicates that UL has recognized the representative sample of the product as meeting UL's safety requirements. These requirements are mainly based on UL's own published safety standards. This type of logo is commonly found in the following categories of products: electrical appliances, computer equipment, stoves and heaters, fuses, power boards, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers and automatic fire sprinkler systems, personal flotation devices, bulletproof glass, and thousands of other products.
There are three types of UL listing marks: one is only used in the United States, one is only used in Canada, and one is commonly used in both the United States and Canada. The C-UL mark is applicable to products sold in the Canadian market. Products with such markings have been evaluated in accordance with Canadian safety requirements, which may differ from those in the United States. The C-UL-US logo is optional, indicating that the product meets the requirements of both Canada and the United States. UL encourages manufacturers who have obtained product certifications in both countries to adopt this new combination logo, but manufacturers may choose to continue using separate logos for the United States or Canada.
The UL Listing Mark appears on end products and complete components suitable for factory and on-site installation. All products bearing the UL Listing Mark are included in the UL Tracking Inspection Service to verify that end products and components bearing the UL Listing Mark continue to comply with UL safety requirements during the manufacturing process. The UL listing mark on a product generally contains four essential elements:
>The UL lettering in the circular logo
>The word 'Listed'
>Product name or company name/file number
>Version/serial number or alphanumeric control number
UL Classification Mark
\
This symbol appears on products that have already undergone UL evaluation, but this evaluation is only conducted for specific properties, limited hazards, or suitability under specific conditions of representative samples of the product. UL rated products are usually divided into two categories: building materials and industrial equipment. Examples of UL rated equipment products include diving suits, fire doors, firefighter protective equipment, and industrial trucks.
Like the UL Listing Mark, there are three types of UL Classification Marks: one is only used in the United States, one is only used in Canada, and one is commonly used in both the United States and Canada. The C-UL classification mark is used for products sold in the Canadian market. Products with such markings have been evaluated for specific hazards or properties in accordance with Canadian standards. The C-UL-US grading mark is optional, indicating that the product meets the requirements of both Canada and the United States. UL encourages manufacturers who evaluate their UL rated products in both countries to adopt this new combination mark, but manufacturers may choose to continue using the UL rating mark specifically for the United States or Canada.

In the grading service, UL confirms that the manufacturer has demonstrated its ability to produce products that meet UL requirements, which involve one or more of the following aspects:
>Specific hazards, such as injuries, fires, etc.
>Performance under specific conditions
>Compliant with regulatory standards
>Complies with specific standards, such as international standards
>Other conditions determined by UL

All products bearing the UL rating mark are included in the UL tracking inspection service program to verify that products bearing the UL rating mark continue to comply with UL safety requirements during the manufacturing process. The UL rating mark on a product generally contains four essential elements:
>The UL lettering in the circular logo
>The word 'Classified'
>Product name or company name/file number
>Version/serial number or alphanumeric control number
